From Robinson Crusoe to Captain Hook: All kinds of island adventures for kids on Faaker Island

Inselhotel Faakersee offers a lively children’s activity programme during the summer months

The Carinthian Inselhotel Faakersee**** is a car-free holiday paradise that can only be reached by means of the small hotel boat – so the imaginations of our youngest guests are stimulated right from the off. The exclusive (island) location, ie. in the middle of Austria’s most southerly lake, is the perfect starting point for stressed parents to enjoy some peace and relaxation; at the same time, we offer a whole host of island adventures for both young and old.

Whether it’s pirates, explorers, adventurers, woodland fairies or goblins – in Austria’s only island hotel, a whole host of unusual characters scurry around during the summer months. The reason for this is to create a lively entertainment programme in which children of three years and above can take part every day (except Sundays) for free.

Once a week, we have a children’s evening meal with a kids menu, followed by a boat ride around the island. In addition to painting and doing handicrafts , daily activities include exercise out in the natural surroundings and in/by the lake. Older children from seven years of age enjoy exploring the wooded, car-free island in groups, allowing them to feel just like Robinson Crusoe and giving them the opportunity to learn a little about the flora and fauna.

Adventurous treasure hunts also form part of the programme: Faaker island is suddenly transformed into treasure island, where children can seek out the hidden treasures in teams, equipped with their treasure map and spade. The children can dress up for the theme, have their faces painted by the group leaders and soon feel just like Captain Hook from Peter Pan or Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. For anyone who prefers things more slow-paced, we can provide a picnic for you to take to an enchanted spot in the woods.

We also organise challenges such as sporting competitions; whether it’s swimming, jumping from the jetty, volleyball or table tennis the kids are into, there are small prizes to be won.

If it’s bad weather, we revert to the good old days – telling fairy tales and stories about regional legends, playing board games or singing (if the kids like, we can even put on SingStar).

If the children are quite adventurous, instead of staying with their parents, they can spend the night together with friends of the same age at Villa Muh – a place totally forbidden for adults!

Children’s entertainment (July and August) is free and can also be booked on an individual basis.
